Garden Duty!

We headed off to the garden centre this morning to get 20bags of chipped slate for the outside patio that we mapped out yesterday and we also got a few extra bits and pieces.

I got another blueberry bush as I had one which did OK last year, but I only recently found out that they do much better if you have more than one as they cross-pollinate each other. Therefore, I'm hoping this year, I'll be in abundance with blueberries!

I also managed to pick up a few tomato plants. I picked 3 purple tomato plants and 3 yellow tomato plants - all of them the cherry variety. I'm growing our own normal red cherry tomatoes from seeds, so if all goes to plan, we will have a nice variety of tomatoes this year!

Luckily we had one of our old neighbours who is still only 5 minutes down the canal from us, Sue, give us a lift back - and thank Crikey she did! Would have been a nightmare trying to get a taxi to take us back with it all - Sue's LandRover was full when we'd loaded everything in (we also got 4 bags of 50litre compost for Pawel's raised vegetable beds!)

We finally got back to the mooring and it only took us an hour to get all the gravel down and levelled as best we could!

Levelling:

Finished:

It needs maybe another couple of bags to finish off levelling it and I also think the batons should be painted a dark brown or forest green to blend in a bit more.

Then I just need to sort out that last board (where the chair and plant pots are sat on in the final picture) as we couldn't put gravel there as there's a gap which just goes into the canal - I might just ask the farmer if I can borrow some of his astro turf and put that over it. It'll hide the board and the gap then and make it look a bit more presentable :)

Comments

  1. It looks good. You're lucky to have a farmer who doesn't mind that sort of thing - some don't like moorers making their own gardens.

By the way, we're hoping to come your way on our big trip in September, if all goes to plan.

  2. Ys we are quite lucky here so are very happy.

You'll have to stop in for a coffee if you come past us!
