A Busy Week

Well I'm really late with this post - it's nearly midnight, but, as they say - better late than never!

We've had a really busy week, sorting things out with the apartment, doctors appointments and yes - more work on the boat!

I think I mentioned in one of my posts last week that we'd had Rob back on board to fit a TV unit, a kitchen corner unit as well as a slimline cupboard in the kitchen. He also fitted a basket rack next to the oven for things like fruit and veg - it's practical and stylish ;)

He actually made a start on the work last month but due to his schedule and other things going on here, he only popped back this week to finish the work off.

We'd had the TV unit done just because we had this massive clunky thing which took up loads of room - it was too wide and you just simply don't have room to spare on a narrowboat!

We designed the unit with Rob and I'm really pleased with it. We didn't want it any deeper than gunnel depth and it works really well while still giving us plenty of storage in the cupboards below. Here it is:

It looks really smart, although we're still waiting for two glass shelves to be fitted on either side of the TV (above the clock and the vase in the picture above). That'll definitely set it off and make it look really smart. The only thing now, is that Pawel wants a big TV.... Think I will get eye ache....!!

Here is how the living room was before with the old unit:

And After:
(Much, much better now. Rob, as always, has done a great job.)

Someone looks happy!

You can also see in the picture above, the units Rob's added on in the kitchen. He's put a glazed corner cupboard we designed with him and a slimline cupboard which is handy for tins etc. I'm going to do a stained glass design on the glazed cupboard which will be really nice and it'll eventually have a light in.

Here is how it was before:

After:

If you remember, when we had the worktop chopped back on that side of the kitchen back in December and the small drawers added, we always planned to have the corner unit put in, but had to wait until now until we'd saved.

The good news is, that we now feel satisfied that the boat is "finished" . Well, the front of it anyway. It's just the bedroom now that needs gutting and fitting properly.

Then ideally, we'd like to fit double glazing and central heating....but no big hurry there I guess. At least now, we feel the boat is functioning better, with much better storage and is comfortable for us.

However, its all come at a cost! The cost being:

1. We have no life now.... We don't go "out", or have holidays, or go out for meals.
2. I don't even have any clothes ( I'm serious - I have one T-Shirt!) as all we do is save and then spend all the money on the boat!!
3. We have no outside life. It's all about the boat......But isn't that what being a "boater" is all about ?!

We need a hobby....ahem!

So do you notice anything else about the pictures above????

There's something else that's different about the boat..... Can you tell what it is?! Reply on the back of a fag packet ;)
