Window Frames

Image
Not a lot been happening today, which I suppose at least gives me an opportunity to fill you in on the further work we had done last week by Rob. It looks like it's going to be a cold evening tonight though. We've only had one or two frosts up here so far, but I'm thinking that we will have another overnight. The temperature at 6PM was only 2.3c and now as I write this, the temperature is reading 0.5c. I know it wasn't long ago that I was complaining about winter and wishing summer was upon us, but I have to say, I get a lot more excited about winter-time weather than summer weather! Sad?! Anyway, back to last week.... Once Rob had completed the doors, he also began fitting the new Sapele window frames that we had asked him to make for us. We wanted two new ones for the living room and two for the bedroom. The old window frames werent really window frames at all - mostly just beading around the edges of the windows which were looking tatty, coming away from the walls an...

I Need to Post More Regularly!

Image
So quite a few weeks have passed again since I last posted - time just seems to be going quicker and quicker with little left for blogging! Not only that but I think maybe Im feeling self conscious about posting(?!) It's a bit hard to explain but when I was writing the blog before I had any readers, it was easier - I didn't feel censored or like I had to word things in a certain way - I could just write what I was thinking or feeling and it didn't really matter. I always said that if I felt I had to censor posts that I would stop posting altogether. On the other hand though , I have missed blogging and having the interaction with other boaters - not only that but the blog is great to look back on from time to time and see how far we've come in terms of our fit out. So I guess I just have to find a balance really and get over it! Lots has been happening in the last few weeks, mostly with hospital appointments as there's still no resolution to my problems :S Not only...

A Busy Week

Image
Well I'm really late with this post - it's nearly midnight, but, as they say - better late than never! We've had a really busy week, sorting things out with the apartment, doctors appointments and yes - more work on the boat! I think I mentioned in one of my posts last week that we'd had Rob back on board to fit a TV unit, a kitchen corner unit as well as a slimline cupboard in the kitchen. He also fitted a basket rack next to the oven for things like fruit and veg - it's practical and stylish ;) He actually made a start on the work last month but due to his schedule and other things going on here, he only popped back this week to finish the work off. We'd had the TV unit done just because we had this massive clunky thing which took up loads of room - it was too wide and you just simply don't have room to spare on a narrowboat! We designed the unit with Rob and I'm really pleased with it. We didn't want it any deeper than gunnel depth and it works re...

Aaaaaarrrgh

Yup, I want to scream! There's so many things going on here at the minute and its definitely getting on top me now. It makes me wonder if when we chose the name for the boat, if we really did curse ourselves! So, there's lots going on and depending what happens in the next few days, I'm pretty sure I'm going to go ballistic, more of which I'll tell you about when its all cleared up! Yesterday started off really well too, as we finally met up with Doug and James on Chance for a coffee and a chat - something we'd been talking about doing for quite a few months. They are currently travelling around and also have Olly off Queen Maeve with them who also came along yesterday morning. I took a Victoria Sponge to go with the coffees, which I hope everyone enjoyed and, yes, they finally got a picture of me!! (Nope, thats not me, that's the cake....) Apparently, the guys thought I was an anonymous hermit tucked away in the boat (I am!) and thought it was funny that th...

Three Months?!

Image
Apparently that's how long I've been away from the blog. Wow. Time really does fly, either having fun or not! In some ways, I suppose I can blame "summer" ! It's lovely in the new mooring and of course, we've had such great weather that we've been making the most of it with good food, good drink and great company keeping us entertained this summer. However, since my operation, my knee hasn't been good at all and in some ways, has gotten worse.... It's all still ongoing with trips to hospitals, surgeons, doctors etc and no one knowing what the problem is or what to do next. So in some ways I've been pretty depressed with being limited in what I can and can't do and not knowing how long its all going to go on for. I suppose for a while I'd fell out of love with the boat as well and we'd been thinking about what to do. Not knowing how manageable it will be in the future with my knee/leg being how it is has made us think about whether t...

Polish Gingerbread - "Piernik"

Image
You see, even Eddie likes the look of this one... To go back to the beginning, Pawel was off the other day and after seeing me struggle to make a variety of complex cakes etc for a long time, has treated me(!) to a stand mixer - as a sort-of get well present! It makes light work of everything and definately worth having if you're a long-suffering baker. So what better way to say thanks, than to help him make a polish gingerbread - or "Piernik" as it is known in his native language! It's the first time we've actually baked together and we had a really nice time. However, because we had the new gadget to play with, we were both fighting over who was "turning it on" or "having a go next"....!!! Boys and toys, you know. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Polish Gingerbread - "Piernik" The problem with us Brits, is that if a dish isn't Chinese, French, Spanish or Italian, we have our reservations about it! I know I am certainly guilty of tha...
