Bathroom Refurb - Day 6

Image
The bathroom refurb began again today at 8AM when Rob was knocking on the door. Today he brought with him the cabinets, bath panel and wall unit but has had to take that home again to do some adjustments on the angle. These photos are absolutely terrible and do the work no justice! I've taken a mixture of pictures with flash and no flash because nothing looks decent at night time! They look dark and gloomy with no flash or sterile and gloomy with the flash! I will take better pictures tomorrow. Tiling finished on the bulkheads: Vanity unit: With flash: There's still shelves to go on the side of the unit yet too which is why the top is extended past the unit. New tap: Shower rail in place: Like I said - better pictures tomorrow! It's great just to have the bathroom sink back in place...but the disaster today is that the shower screen is too tall! Rob isn't coming back until Wednesday now, but is hopefully going to finish things up then - it all looks a bit of a state and...

A Sunny Sunday

Image
It's been a nice bright day which is appreciated as the last few days have been gloomy and showery. The only problem now is the outside temperature :( Perhaps we will have the boat lifted to France next year! We haven't been up to much today, and haven't really left the boat all day either - there will be plenty of trips to town etc tomorrow and Tuesday when Rob returns to complete the bathroom, so we thought we'd chill out today. We did go and see Andy at the "Trading Post" as we needed some new rope for a new centreline and a chimney hat, as ours blew off a few weeks back. As the gas locker needs painting too, Pawel decided to sand back so I can paint it - if only we could get some decent weather that will last so I can get a few coats on. It desperately needs doing as the lid was badly scratched as was the area around it. It's all been sanded back now though so just needs the repaint when the weather will allow! Where is spring?!

A Saturday Present!

We've not really done anything significant today but we have been busy doing jobs. We've mostly been sorting out - trying to throw loads of stuff out of the engine room, sorting out a few more cupboards and the chimney was due a good clean which Pawel has done today. I also had to wash, dry and iron the curtains today as they were looking a bit grubby from the work we've been having done. I meant to take them down last week and put them away somewhere but forgot! When Rob returns to complete the bathroom on Monday I will be sure to take them down then. Later on we popped into town as we needed a few bits from the DIY store and some dinner from Waitrose - plus Eddie needed some food too! We stopped for a coffee in Costa and were sat in the window when suddenly a random horse came running down the street stopping traffic and nearly clipping an old man who had just come around a corner. It was quite scary as the horse had obviously thrown someone off its back, as about 5 minut...

Bathroom Refurb - Day 5

Image
Well technically, for us anyway, it's not Day 5 of the bathroom refurbishment as we haven't done anything nor has Rob been to the boat. However, he has been busy with our units and has finished the top along with giving it a few coats of lacquer: It looks a bit bright but that's just Rob's camera and I think he mentioned there was a light shining onto the top. On the right hand side where the worktop sticks out a bit is going to have a few shelves for things like towels. He's also just sent us a picture of our Sapele bath panel. Looks great! Again he's made it using Sapele planking and as you can see it looks similar to the hatch we had done. It'll all add to the continuity of it all. Rob is now coming on Monday so I don't think they'll be any bathroom related posts tomorrow! To be continued on Monday!

Bathroom Refurb - Day 4

Image
Rob hasn't been on board today, he's been busy building the units for the bathroom and has just sent some pictures over to show us how he's getting on. We're really pleased - its all looking really good and we feel really excited now about how it's all going to look when finished. Our new vanity/sink unit: The unit is made using components of our old unit - mostly the front face and the door. Here's a picture of the new Sapele worktop which till go on top of the sink unit. Rob is making it similar to how a worktop is made using staves and gluing the blocks together: The top will have a curved edge so needs to be cut yet. And here is the bathroom wall cabinet. Again it is a corner unit and Rob is making it using parts of the existing cabinet we had on the wall: So overall, we haven't been up to a lot today. I think we've just been trying to relax a bit as yesterday was really full on with all the cleaning and reorganising we had to get on with when we go...

Bathroom Refurb - Day 3

Image
Back to life, back to reality! What a mess!! But it's to be expected I suppose... It's nearly 8Pm and we've just finished cleaning up. We got back to the boat around 2PM and Rob wasn't here and everything looked mostly the same as in the pictures that Rob sent last night. There was no sign of Rob as he'd gone back to his workshop to start building our units, as he will now fit the units and finish the tiling off around those. Most of it is "sort of" finished, its just a case of plumbing the shower in and all the finishing touches. I know from experience though that it's the finishing touches that always end up taking the longest and are the messiest jobs! On the way home... A few better quality pictures of the tiling: No sink and no unit(!): The other side: Rob isn't coming until Friday now as he's focusing on the units, bath panel and window frame which I imagine he will be bringing on Friday too! We will keep you posted.

Some picture we've just had from Rob on text message. Good or what?!
